Ottawa Brand Photography with an Ottawa Brand Designer
As a brand designer, it’s no surprise that Taylor had a very specific vision for her brand photos to align seamlessly with her rebrand. She was looking to partner with a photographer that could understand her creative direction, and someone who she felt comfortable to be honest and open with through the process (AND SHE CAME TO THE RIGHT GAL).
Before we picked up the camera, Taylor and I collected inspiration imagery from all over. The inspiration imagery wasn’t just for photos to replicate, it was a collection of poses, photographic techniques, composition, and a general attitude we were looking to achieve. Taylor also shared her near-complete website and new branding so I had a full look into her vision.
Once we were aligned on all the above, we got down to business with booking a studio space and developing a general shot list and schedule to be sure we hit the mark, and left some room for creativity, too. In my experience, planning to start the session slowly and a bit simpler with portraits lets us warm up and get a good flow going before infusing different poses, candids and props.
On Taylor’s end, she compiled a list of wardrobe pieces she owned and considered a few new pieces that tied everything together, keeping her brand colours, textures, and levels of formality all in mind. Closer-to, she booked nail and hair appointments to feel her best on shoot-day.
A couple notes and suggestions from Taylor:
“Investing in good brand photography can really help elevate your brand. It makes such a difference and I don’t think people understand the value of that until they go through the process themselves. Working as a social media marketer and brand designer, it is SO helpful and valuable to have good quality personal brand photography.”
“Having a brand and website already designed and in place is helpful to have before getting photos done so you know what colours and vibes you are going for, and what types of shots you need (e.g. wide angle for header images or 2-3 portraits for the about page…etc.)”
